Title: I Made It Through the Biopsy Without a Hitch!

I was really, really scared to go through the biopsy procedure. The first thing I did was get on the internet and luckily, I found this website. I found comfort reading all of the stories from other ladies who had gone through the procedure.

I met with the Radiologist first. He explained everything to me. Then off we went for the procedure. They had me lie face down on the table with my right breast hanging through a hole in the table. After they positioned my breast, they lightly compressed it to hold it in place. They took some pictures so that the computer could map exactly where the area to be biopsied was. Then the doctor told me he was going to numb the site. I didn't feel a thing! Then he gave me some more numbing medicine that went deeper into the tissue. The doctor explained to me that this combination was useful to prolong the numbing effect.

Next, the assistant told me I was going to hear a popping sound and not to move. It was the biopsy needle being inserted into my breast. Again, I didn't feel a thing, just a little pressure. They proceeded to take several tissue samples. After they were done, they held pressure to the injection site for about ten minutes. I was told that a tissue marker was placed inside my breast and that I needed a mammogram done to make sure it was visible. It was.

I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles, doctors, nurses, hospitals, etc. If I can do this, you can too! I hope that all women out there over age 40 get mammograms every year and take good care of themselves.
