I was 71 years old and had a mammogram every year for at least 40 years, all with good results. In 2001 I had one in June and the results were sent back with the recommendation that I should have another mammogram. I, of course, thought there was something wrong with the test, but had it done again. This time the results indicated that there was something that needed attention. I had a needle biopsy on July 19th and they found a very small cancer that needed to be removed. I had a lumpectomy on the 30th of July. I started radiation on the 21st of August and finished October 5th. So far so good!!! I feel fine and I am hopeful that I'll continue to be a survivor!!! Early detection is very important and I am so grateful that they found this when they did. My health care providers say it would never have been noticed by me or picked up by any exam other than the mammogram.
